Goa, a tiny green land surrounded by azure waters on the west coast of India, with its natural picturesque beauty, is known as the “Pearl of the Orient” and a “Tourist Paradise”. The magnificent scenic beauty and the architectural splendours of its temples, churches and old houses have made Goa a hot favourite with travellers around the world. The most important places of interests are the beaches of Goa which are filled with millions of tourists every year, as visitors all over the world flock to this natural paradise. Besides, Goa also has wild life sanctuaries, lakes, waterfalls and forts. It also has rich flora and fauna, owing to its location on the Western Ghats range, which is classified as a biodiversity hotspot. Major festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi, Diwali, Ramadan Eid, Christmas, Easter and Carnival are celebrated with great gusto.

Goa continues to be a popular holiday destination in the country, with the 5th biennial Hotelivate State Ranking Survey for tourism ranking it among the top five states. Conducted in collaboration with the World Travel and Tourism Council-India Initiative, the survey has ranked Goa third. As of 2017, Goa saw 60 lakhs domestic tourist arrivals and over 8 lakhs foreign tourist arrivals. It has 63 star category hotels. Goa’s branded hotel room supply showed a growth by 14% in the past 2 years. Goa leads the states in terms of tourism spending in 2016-17, with 0.673% of its expenditure allocated for travel and tourism.
